Are You Aware of The Battle of Chaeronea?

Letter to the Editor

Chaeronea was the site of a battle between the Greek poleis of Athens and Thebes ("Sacred Band"), on the Greek side, against the Macedonians, led by Philip II and his 18-year-old son Alexander (soon to be Alexander the Great) that took place in August 338 B.C. When the Macedonians won, they killed many and sold others into slavery. So Athens agreed to a treaty. Among the terms, Athens agreed to join Phillip's Hellenic union in exchange for the release of prisoners. One ancient source on the Battle of Chaeronea is Diodorus of Sicily 16.85.5-86.

Also, are you aware that Macedonia has been separated in the Bible on many occasions separate to Greece?

As an example, please refer to Acts 20v1-3 re the Apostle Paul's journey.

1When the uproar had ended, Paul sent for the disciples and, after encouraging them, said good-by and set out for Macedonia. 2He traveled through that area, speaking many words of encouragement to the people, and finally arrived in Greece, 3where he stayed three months. Because the Jews made a plot against him just as he was about to sail for Syria, he decided to go back through Macedonia.

What is true though is that Alexander The Great embraced the Hellenic culture and therefore Hellenized the whole region.

I find it very disturbing when truth's are concealed and overlooked. More research is always required.

George
