RF Technologies(R) Installs Safe Place(R) Solution for Pediatric and Infant Security at ProHealth Care's Waukesha Memorial Hospital
BROOKFIELD, Wis., Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- RF Technologies(R), a leading
provider of radio frequency identification monitoring systems and healthcare
monitoring solutions, announces it has installed its Safe Place(R) Pediatric
and Infant Security Solution at ProHealth Care's Waukesha Memorial Hospital to
help protect infants and children from abduction. The tertiary care
hospital's staff delivers around 2,300 babies per year.
"ProHealth Care ranks among the most technologically and clinically
advanced healthcare systems in the U.S. We are excited that they have
partnered with us to monitor their young patients," said Warner (Chuck) Pyne
III, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Hospital Solutions, at RF
Technologies.
"The safety and well-being of all of our patients is top priority at
ProHealth Care. With that in mind, we decided to upgrade to a more robust
system. We conducted a thorough analysis of infant and pediatric security
vendors. RF Technologies and its Safe Place solution really impressed us,"
said Roberta Sonnentag, Clinical Manager LDRP and GYN Services at ProHealth
Care's Waukesha Memorial Hospital. "Not only were we amazed by the technology
but also with the knowledge and skill of its staff."
Protection that offers peace of mind
The Safe Place system was installed in the maternity and pediatric units
of Waukesha Memorial Hospital.
"We felt incorporating both infant and pediatric units were important.
Infants as well as children under five years of age or those older with
extenuating circumstances are fitted with a transmitter," stated Timothy Wiza,
Director of Security and Safety for ProHealth Care.
A lightweight transmitter is placed around a child's ankle or wrist. This
allows the staff to monitor the child's whereabouts within the protected area.
The transmitter sends a signal to receivers placed throughout the hospital.
If the band is tampered with or if the infant or child is too close to a
doorway, an alarm will sound. Hospital doors also immediately lock down.
Safe Place also allows the hospital's staff to generate a variety of
customized reports to help reduce alarms and to be ready for Joint Commission
reviews at the touch of a button.
Ongoing training
Staff education and training were conducted over a one-week period with
follow-up training 90 days later. Practice abduction drills also took place.
As time goes on, the hospital will have additional practice abduction drills
so its staff maintains its familiarity with the system.
"It's a comprehensive security system that provides peace of mind," stated
Sonnentag. "During install and since installation, RF Technologies has really
maintained that very high level of customer service. To me, the measure of
real success is how a company handles the training of the weekend and off
shifts. Its staff truly became part of our staff during training, it couldn't
have gone more smoothly," stated Sonnentag.
Teams up to offer ACLS OB course
In order to assist its nurses as well as others in the area, ProHealth
Care has partnered with RF Technologies to provide an Advanced Cardiovascular
Life Support (ACLS) certification course, which has been developed with OB
nurses in mind. The course was held August 12-14 at Waukesha Memorial
Hospital.
Through the two-day course, a nurse is certified and receives an AHA ACLS
Provider card. An optional third day offers attendees an opportunity to
receive ACLS Instructor certification. RF Technologies has partnered with the
clinical instruction team from St. Luke's Meridian Medical Center ofBoise,
Idaho, to provide the actual training.
For additional information on this course, contact Kathie Vick, Marketing
Communications Manager, RF Technologies, 800-669-9946 Ext. 5179.
