Stanek Windows Challenges Kids to Take Their Parents Back to School

CLEVELAND, Aug. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Responding to bleak reports that natural gas costs could rise as much as 35% this winter, Stanek Windows is running an online contest that encourages kids to get involved in saving energy while teaching their parents a thing or two about where significant energy loss occurs in the home.

The Stanek Windows "Take Your Parents Back to School Challenge" features an online home energy quiz that puts conventional ideas to the test. With the aid of a printable room-by-room guide, participants identify energy zappers in their own homes, and translate estimated energy loss into actual dollar amounts. All participants that complete the short quiz will be entered into a drawing for a new laptop computer and $500 gas card. The winning child's school will receive a $1,000 cash prize to help offset the widespread extracurricular funding cuts prompted by rising energy costs.

Sven Kramer, general manager for Stanek Windows comments, "It's a great way for kids to see they really can make a difference. They can save energy to help protect the environment, and help their family out at the same time." Kramer says the energy saving ideas presented in the Stanek Windows Challenge go beyond turning off lights and replacing incandescent bulbs with fluorescent ones to include ideas most parents haven't heard before. "Kids will have fun educating their parents. After years of hearing 'turn the lights off!' kids will enjoy telling their parents to 'turn the fan off!'" Kramer says bathroom fans can pull the heated air from a home in a matter of minutes. "We're all getting hit hard by energy costs. This is a fun way to make a real difference."
