MI5 Recruits HomosexualsBy Robert Paul Reyes "The intelligence service MI5 has teamed up with Britain's leading gay lobby group to recruit more homosexuals and to encourage spies to be open about their sexuality. MI5, which targets home-grown terrorists and foreign spies, has hired Stonewall to advise on how it can attract a broader range of applicants. This move by MI5 is an important step forward in the advancement of gay rights. The British spy agency could not have moved in this enlightened direction had there not been a sea change in the way Brits view homosexuality. In the UK homosexuality is more acceptable than in the States, the English love their gay celebrities. In England, homosexuality is not considered an impediment to success in the entertainment business. In the United States many gay and lesbian celebrities are afraid to come out of the closet for fear it might mean the end of their careers. In the UK and in the United States homosexuals should not be barred from any job for fear they might be suspect to blackmail. I can't believe that in the 21st century gays and lesbians still aren't allowed to serve openly in the US military. I applaud the British government for their forward thinking; I hope it inspires American politicians to follow suit.
