Comcast Launches Nine New HD Networks in Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt., Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast, the nation's leading provider of entertainment, information and communications, today announced it has launched nine new High Definition (HD) networks inVermont, adding more popular educational, family-friendly and entertainment programming to its rapidly expanding HD library, which is on pace to offer 1,000 HD choices by the end of the year.

As more and more Comcast customers select digital cable -- the majority of Comcast's customers inVermont now subscribe to digital service -- the company will continue to launch more HD and On Demand programming. In addition to offering 1,000 HD choices by the year end, Comcast will offer 6,000 movies On Demand at any given time by the end of next year, including 3,000 HD movies. This continuing expansion is made possible by recent broadband reallocation efforts that included moving some analog channels to Comcast's digital lineup, creating more room for highly sought-after HD and On Demand programming on Comcast's advanced fiber-optic network.

The nine new HD channels can be found on the Comcast lineup as follows:

-- Disney HD, which is now available on Channel 783 delivers today's hottest original series such as Hannah Montana and movies for kids and families.

-- ABC Family HD, which can be viewed on Channel 784 features popular entertainment programs for the entire family like Greek, Kyle XY and Lincoln Heights.

-- TLC HD, available on Channel 787 is focused on being a trusted destination for viewers who want the "real" in their reality. TLC series include What Not to Wear; Little People, Big World; Jon & Kate Plus 8, The Secret Life of a Soccer Mom, Miami Ink and the successful spin-off LA Ink.

-- AMC HD, now on Channel 786, offers award-winning entertainment such as Mad Men along with the network's library of popular movies andHollywood classics.

-- Science Channel HD, which can be watched on Channel 785, allows viewers to experience engaging and high-quality programs that are ideally suited for HD delivery.

-- Animal Planet HD, now on Channel 780, allows fans of the network's animal-inspired programming, including Meerkat Manor, Orangutan Island, Lemur Kingdom and Escape to Chimp Eden, to view the channel's original series and specials in HD.

-- Sci-Fi HD, which can be viewed on Channel 781, delivers the network's popular original series, movies and reality shows in HD, including the Emmy Award-winning Battlestar Galactica, Eureka, Stargate Atlantis and Ghost Hunters.

-- TMC (The Movie Channel) HD, which is now available on Channel 810 to subscribers of The Movie Channel, features theatricals, cult classics and indie films. Plus, The Movie Channel airs programming stunts like The Good Stuff and Splatterday on Saturdays, film facts, movie trivia, celebrity interviews and behind-the-scenes extras.

-- Showtime 2 HD is available on Channel 802 to all Showtime subscribers. Showtime 2 HD is home to "catch-up marathons" of Showtime Original Series and SHO Sports Presents, an exclusive series airing every weeknight at 10 p.m. ET/PT featuring the best of Showtime Championship Boxing, ShoBox: The New Generation, mixed martial arts (MMA) matches and the ShoXC: Elite Challenger Series.
