Pushing The Limits of Bacon

I was recently contacted by Laura Firestone, the Museum Store Manager of the Akron Art Museum, in Akron Ohio. They wanted the help of www.baconfreak.com by helping them decorate an upcoming exhibition that they acquired through a donation by Robert Shebairo. The donation is a color photograph titled Body Limits by Sandy Skoglund. Guess what the picture shows? .. it features a surreal scene where an entire room and its contents are covered in bacon. It is quite a site to see. Never before have I seen everything from the walls, the floor, people, and furniture coated with raw uncooked bacon. You heard that right, she used real bacon and she simply covered everything with it. Oh and by the way those aren't real people covered in bacon they are mannequins.

So you're asking what kind of help they wanted. Well, when they release this painting to the public, they wanted to display several items that we feature such as the bacon lunchbox, bacon wallet and of course the Bacon is Meat Candy T-shirt as a part of the display!

The Akron Art Institute first opened its doors in 1922 in the basement of the public library. The founders were ambitious and hoped to build a permanent home that would feature a collection of historical and modern art. From its humble beginnings the art museum has continued to grow and enrich the lives of many through its nationally recognized collection.

Sandy has been at the forefront of contemporary art in the United States for the past two decades. She has continued to astonish audiences with her interesting and intriguing room-sized environments, many of which have human models or mannequins. If you have a fascination with food and art I highly encourage you to look into some of her artwork, especially SPIRITUALITY IN THE FLESH where she uses hamburger meat to cover up a room! This story is making me hungry!
