Fat Cat (Princess Chunk) Update: Cat Victim of Foreclosure

Yesterday I posted an article about a 44-pound feline who was found waddling around the streets of New Jersey. The kitty cat was named Princess Chunk by the Camden County Animal shelter, and she was put on a diet.

Princess Chunk became a media darling, and she's been scheduled to appear in various morning TV shows including "Good Morning America." I am still waiting for my 15 minutes of fame, and this cat became world famous simply by waddling around the streets. If I ambled around the downtown streets seeking fame, I would be arrested for vagrancy.

The mystery of how Princess Chunk became homeless has been solved:

"Turns out, the economy is the reason a 44-pound cat found lumbering the streets of New Jersey became homeless.

The Camden County Animal Shelter said the cat's owner came forward to say she had to abandon the tubby tabby because her home was foreclosed.

Shelter director Jennifer Anderch said the older woman recently lost her home and could not keep the 10-year-old cat, whom she called 'Powder.'

It also turns out that the princess is a prince. A veterinarian who checked the cat Thursday on 'Live with Regis and Kelly' determined it's a 'he.'"

Text of entire article can be read at:

I hope Princess/Prince Chunk is not returned to the owner, she didn't have to let her beautiful cat loose in the streets. A 44-pound lumbering cat would be easy prey for other animals roaming the streets. She should have given her cat to a friend or turned it in to an animal shelter.

Prince Chunk is going to need a therapy after all he's gone through. It's bad enough that he was abandoned by his "loving" owner, but then to add insult to injury, he's mistaken for a girl and renamed "Princess."

Hundreds of cat-lovers have called the animal shelter seeking to adopt the kitty cat. One of those callers has got to be a real animal lover who would never, under any circumstances, abandon Prince Chunk.
