Two-fisted Chuck Norris is back for another round as Walker, Texas Ranger: The Complete Fifth Season -- all 25 episodes now available on DVD.
Premise
Texas Ranger Cordell Walker (Norris) is old-school when it comes to dealing with criminals: using his hands and feet. Fighting crime is a dirty job, but with Walker around, justice is a leg up.
Helping him is partner James Trivette (Clarence Gilroyd, Left Behind), semi-retired Ranger C.D. Parker (the late Noble Willingham), and lady love prosecutor Alex Cahill (Sheree J. Wilson, Dallas).
Sons of Thunder: Could've Been The Next Walker
Joining Walker this season is protege Trent Malloy (James Wleck, Ryan's Hope) and childhood friend, Det. Carlos Sandoval (Marco Sanchez, SeaQuest DSV), who get their own short-lived spin-off series a year later.
Walker's fifth season continues to mixed martial arts and action with social and Christian commentary:
Lucas: Future Sixth Sense star Haley Joel Osment is the title role, as Walker helps him come to terms with the boy having AIDS.
The Soul of Winter: With the help of Trent and Carlos, the Rangers take on a white supremacy group, as its leader seeks revenge on the Malloys' friend, the minister (the late Paul Winfield) who send him to prison.
In God's Hands: Trivette is suspended for his alleged involvement in the accidental shooting of an six-year-old boy, leaving him wracked with guilt, as the boy's family prays for him and the older brother seeks revenge on Trivette. Walker sets out to prove his friend and partner's innocence.
Some has called Walker being preachy and violent, while others has called it a guilty pleasure. Still, the show continues to maintain its popularity through its reruns on USA Network and The Hallmark Channel.
Walker, Texas Ranger is a modern-day Western that has butt-kicking action; not only is it entertaining, but it also something for the whole family to watch. The show has good old-fashioned moral values and a tough-guy action hero with a heart of gold.
Chuck Norris could be the John Wayne of martial arts: a man of honor, courage, brave, and humility. He created a series with a character on television that symbolizes hope and idealism -- proving that there are still heroes in the world, justice will prevail, and good can triumph over evil.
