Babson Selects First Weissman Scholars With Interests in Entrepreneurship and Community Service


WELLESLEY, Mass., July 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Babson College has established the Weissman Scholarship Program, a full-tuition award that also provides seed money to start a venture or pursue a global service project, support for research, and stipends for travel.

Five inaugural Weissman Scholars will be part of Babson's incoming freshman class this fall.

Cori Allen (Lawrence, Kansas)

Cori is aKansas delegate for the Democratic Convention, is involved in the Obama presidential campaign, and has participated in Model United Nations. Her career interests concern the field of social entrepreneurship.

Shoney Yakubjanov (Uzbekistan)

Shoney is passionate about graphic design and helping his community. InUzbekistan, he taught English and raised funds for disabled children at a local boarding school. Shoney's career plan involves marketing humanitarian organizations.

Jason Wilkie (Yorba Linda, California)

Jason is interested in technology, having filmed and created promotional material for nonprofits throughout high school. He plans to own a film production company that specializes in providing media for the mobile market.

Shelley Maniovich (Savyon,Israel andBoca Raton, Florida)

Having lived in many different parts of the world, Shelley has learned to embrace new cultures. Her passion for international economics brings her to Babson where she intends to start and run an environmentally conscious enterprise that produces healthy low sugar food for diabetics.

Jacob Brady (Hamburg, New York)

Throughout high school, Jacob cultivated a love of music and art, currently performing as a rock band drummer. He also plans to continue as a cross-country track athlete at Babson and looks forward to an undergraduate education that will provide the creativity and experience to do something truly unique.

Weissman Scholarship Program

Growing out of Bob and Jan Weissman's deep commitment to Babson, the Weissman Scholarship Program fulfills their desire to make an investment that will build and sustain a new level of educational excellence for future business and community leaders.
