Ohio Employment Report: Employee Confidence Index Bounces Back; Half of Workers Confident in Their Ability to Find a New Job

COLUMBUS, Ohio, July 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Ohio Employee Confidence Index increased 5.7 points to 47.1 in June, according to the Spherion(R) Employment Report. The monthly survey conducted by Harris Interactive(R) on behalf of Spherion Corporation, indicates that although fewer workers plan to look for new jobs in the next 12 months, more workers are confident in their ability to find one.

Results from the Ohio Employment Report:

-- Two-thirds (67 percent) of workers are confident in the future of their current employer, compared to 50 percent in May.

-- More than three-quarters (77 percent) of workers believe it is unlikely they will lose their jobs in the next year, an increase of eight percentage points from the previous month.

-- In June, the percentage of workers likely to look for a new job in the next 12 months was cut in half. Specifically, 26 percent of workers are likely to make a job transition versus 52 percent in May.

-- Fifty-one percent of workers are confident in their ability to find a new job, an increase of four percentage points from the previous month.

"We are very excited to see the spike in this month's Index," said Robert Schulte, Spherion franchise owner inOhio. "Although we are continuing to see an unemployment rate inOhio that is higher than the national average, the state's employment landscape remains stable at this time. Widespread macroeconomic uncertainty and the ever-rising cost of fuel seems to have influenced employers timing on making hiring decisions. Despite this, we are continuing to see a steady demand for flexible and direct-hire candidates. It is important for employers to take note that the majority ofOhio workers express confidence in their personal employment situation. Employers looking to tap into this pool of talent will have to become innovative with their recruitment efforts in order to entice these passive candidates."
