Dude Sues Church: He Was Injured When Overcome By The Spirit

I believe that a writer has a special dispensation to indulge in all manner of experiences -- legal and illegal. I've had some crazy experiences in my day, but one of the nuttiest was attending a Pentecostal Holiness church. I witnessed the spirit moving the parishioners to dance, jump up and down, roll down the aisles, and to speak in tongues.

I took everything in stride until a lady who weighed about 400 pounds, who was standing in front of me, starting "swaying in the spirit". I was terrified that she was going to fall back and crush me to death; that's the only time that this freethinker has called upon for the protection of the Almighty.

I always wondered why the pious don't get injured in these freewheeling movings of the spirit -- well it turns out sometimes they do:

"A Sevier County man is suing his former church in South Knoxville, after he claims he was overcome by the spirit, fell backward and hit his head.

Matt Lincoln, 57, says pastors at Lakewind Church should have made sure someone caught him.

His attorney is asking for $2.5 million to cover medical bills, lost income."

This fool, regardless if he was overcome by the spirit, flatulence or alcohol should sue the entity with the deepest pocket: God. If the Lord is in control of all things, he (God) should have placed a deacon in a position to catch him.

However I wouldn't lose any sleep if the dude sues and bankrupts the church, it irks me when I see folks engaging in histrionics in the name of religion.
