Obama Plans To Go Easy on Abortion

By Garrett Godwin

This week, Barack Obama sets out to limit his stand for partial-birth abortion. Some of his statements on abortion includes criticizing Gonzales v. Carhart, the case in which the Supreme Court uphold the federal ban on partial-birth abortion. "I am extremely concerned that this ruling will embolden state legislatures to enact further measures to restrict a woman's right to choose", stated the Democratic Senator, "and that the conservative Supreme Court justices will look for other opportunities to erode Roe v. Wade, which is established federal law and a matter of equal rights for women."

Though being backed by NARAL Pro-Choice America and the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, two important abortion organizations, Obama said that "mental distress" was an acceptable health exception for receiving partial-birth abortion. He also went on to say that "it is not just a matter of feeling blue".

"Barack Obama knows his extreme record on abortion doesn't resonate with everyday American voters", said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser, "so he's trying to soften his image. It won't work. From his active opposition to the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act to his support for the radical Freedom of Choice Act, Barack Obama is anything but moderate on abortion-friendly voting shows his commitment to abortion on-demand, at any time, for any reason, funded by American taxpayers."
