Heath Ledger's Spirit Lives On Through Theater Down Under
By Garrett Godwin
It has been months since his passing, but Heath Ledger will live on, as Perth named a theater after the late young actor last Tuesday. The $87-million, 575-seat Heath Ledger Theater is made out of respect for Hedger's dedication to his craft.
"I think what we're doing", said Western Australia State Premier Alan Carpenter", "is continuing that support for young people who want to make a career in the arts and acting, stage and in film, whatever it happens to be."
Ledger died of an accidental overdose this January in New York. His last role was the Joker, the Crown Prince of Crime, in The Dark Knight, which comes out in theatres July 18. His performance has been given glowing praise, but watching him on film for the final time has made it hard for his family.
"It's just been a little more public and the films make it a little more public as well", responded father Kim Ledger. "It's been a little bit hard, but we've always been extremely proud of his work and that hasn't changed."
