WomenCount PAC Comes Out With a BANG on July 4th: Group to Relaunch as MoveOn for Women
SAN FRANCISCO, July 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Using MoveOn as its model,
WomenCount PAC is asking members to weigh in on the issues, candidates and
agendas for the future. In an e-mail describing the Fourth of July as an
opportunity "to make your own declaration," the group is urging members to
cast a vote for the issues that matter most.
"It's up to you. Is fighting sexism and gender bias at the top of your
list? Do we need to change the discriminatory nominating process? Should we
turn our attention to electing more women to office? Tell us what you think at
womencountpac.com," the e-mail challenges.
"This historic primary election changed the conversation for women in this
country. The passion and energy that has been ignited has created a new
movement," said Stacy Mason, executive director of the PAC that made an
unprecedented impact on the awareness of gender bias through a series of full-
page ads in the New York Times, USA Today and regional papers in the last
weeks of the Democratic primary race. "To understand the direction we're
headed, think MoveOn for women."
WomenCount PAC will begin a series of polls among existing members as well
as the general public to ask for direction on where to put resources in the
days and months to come. The group will publish the results of these polls on
its site and begin working on ads, forums, and key-influencer campaigns to
apply pressure where members ask for it.
"We love the idea of engaging our members and inviting new members in to
voice their opinions to help us develop our activism landscape going forward,"
stated Amy Rao, one of the founders of WomenCount PAC. "So many critical
issues have come into sharp focus during this historic primary season. And
these are not women's issues, these are issues every man, woman and child in
America should be concerned about. We are fired up and ready to go!"
WomenCount PAC was created to ensure that the 51 percent of American
citizens who are women have their values and votes counted in the political
process. So far in the 2008 election cycle, WomenCount has run a series of ads
related to the presidential campaign and made contributions to several women
candidates for Congress.
