Tortoise On The Lam Returned To Owner After 2 1/2 Weeks

When I read the first paragraph of the AP story I said to myself: It would take 2 1/2 years for a tortoise to travel to three towns. But it turns out that the slowpoke was shuttled to the various municipalities.

My rambunctious Pit Bull escaped from my backyard one time, and I don't even want to know how many calamities she caused. But what mischief can a tortoise get into? I'm sure the worst thing it did was trespassing in a strawberry patch.

I'm glad that the restless tortoise wasn't mistaken for a speed bump, and that he didn't end up as turtle soup.

The owner, 14-year-old Kylie Hirchak said:

"I'm really happy. It feels like we just found our lost brother or something."

"Or something" is more like it. I can see a cat or a dog considered a brother or a sister, but a tortoise doesn't even qualify as a 3rd cousin.

How did that turtle escape anyway, doesn't it take forever for that thing to travel the length of their driveway?
