New Zealand Man Puts Soul Up for Auction on Internet

By Robert Paul Reyes

"A New Zealand man has put his soul up for auction to the highest bidder, noting that it is 'a merry old soul' rather than a 'funk soul brother' but that he would 'would like to think there is a bit of funk in there somewhere.'

Walter Scott, 24, put his soul up for sale on New Zealand Internet auction site TradeMe, and so far has received more than 100 expressions of interest.

The successful bidder will receive a framed deed of 'soul ownership', Scott said."

Quotation from the Associated Press

All souls are not created equal, the soul of Paris Hilton would fetch thousands on eBay, even if her framed deed of soul ownership was signed with a crayon. The soul of an ordinary person has value only to mythical creatures like demons and vampires.

Scott's soul is too young to have any value anyway, unlike an auto a soul doesn't depreciate with age. It's as we grow older that we realize what's really important in life: love, companionship, tending to the needs of others...

Scott notes that his soul isn't that of a "funk soul brother", is that a not too subtle hint that the buyer won't be stuck with a soul belonging to a black man? I hope Scott was trying to be cute, and that he's not a racist.

Soul, the spirit that marks a man as cool, and not the essence of a person that survives death, is not the province of black people. Amy Winehouse may be a crackhead junkie, whose life is spiraling out of control, but she's the best new soul singer in the world.

So far the highest bid is less than $200, that's quite a devastating blow to anybody's pride. I hope his Mom feels sorry for him, and bids a $1000 so he won't be publicly humiliated.
