The Golden Arrow First Resort to Install Living Green Roof

The Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort in Lake Placid, New York furthered their Green Initiatives with the installation of a 3400-square-foot green roof Tuesday, June 10, 2008, installed by Weston Solutions, Inc. & GreenGrid®. The Golden Arrow is currently the only resort in New York State to have a green roof.

The Golden Arrow's green roof is comprised of plant varieties native to northern New York, provides a habitat for native birds, bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects that flourish in the Adirondack region. The plants will help improve air quality, releasing oxygen into the air using foliage to bind dust. Storm-water runoff collected will prevent erosion caused by water runoff. Collection of water is a self-maintenance characteristic of the roof. A natural insulator, the green roof will retain heat during winter months and help cool the Resort during summer. Energy consumption will decrease, with lower energy costs helping minimize impact of travelers on earth's natural resources.

Located almost parallel to the windows of the Golden Arrow's second-floor restaurant, Charlie's, the green roof's foliage will provide a beautiful sight for diners. The rooftop garden enhances the overall beauty of the Resort and property.

The Golden Arrow is a leader in green programs throughout northern New York and has set high expectations for other resorts nationally to preserve valuable natural resources. They have made advances with their Green Initiative program since inception in 2005. The Golden Arrow is the only resort in the United States to have achieved a 4-Green Leaf rating from International Audubon.
