Takata Acquires Lane Departure Warning Technology Assets From Cognex
DETROIT, July 3 /PRNewswire/ -- TK Holdings Inc. (a Takata Corporation
group company) has purchased the assets of the former Assistware division of
Cognex for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition enhances Takata's safety technology in the area of lane
departure warning (LDW) systems. These systems use video camera technology to
monitor the road while the vehicle is in motion and alert the driver when the
vehicle is accidentally veering out of the driving lane or running off the
road.
"This acquisition will enhance Takata's capability to deliver automotive,
vision based safety products," says Tom Storrs, Senior Executive Officer,
Electronics Operations. "The IP acquired has been developed by Cognex and the
former Assistware, through years of testing and field experience. There are
numerous LDW systems in vehicles today that utilize these specific algorithms
to provide enhanced safety to their occupants."
Takata had been working with Cognex to develop an LDW product for the
heavy truck market when both companies realized the technology would be better
delivered through Takata. TK Holdings, Inc. and Cognex worked together to
complete the deal.
Takata Corporation, one of the world's leading suppliers of automotive
safety belts and airbag modules, has a long history of safety innovation and
provides a host of safety technologies with the goal of protecting human life.
The company's product portfolio includes seat belts, front and side-impact
airbag modules, steering wheels, safety electronics, interior trim and
textiles.
