The Worlds of Sports and Entertainment Converge for 'Casino Night' at the 40/40 Club to Raise Funds for The Metropolitan Junior Baseball League
NEW YORK, July 3 /PRNewswire/ -- TheRichmond based Metropolitan Junior
Baseball League (MJBL) will attempt to heighten the awareness of their efforts
and raise much needed funding by hosting a star studded event inNew York City
during the MLB All Star weekend. MJBL, a 42-year-old non-profit organization
and the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association (MLBPAA) have teamed
up to present the first annual 'Casino Night' on Sunday, July 13, 2008. A
charity event that will converge professional athletes, celebrities, and a few
lucky fans that will come together for an unforgettable night held at the
world famous 40/40 Club inManhattan to raise funds to continue the efforts of
MJBL.
For one night the 40/40 will be turned into a casino with full slot
machines, poker, black jack and roulette tables. The tournament will be open
to 200 celebrity participants and a limited number of the general public.
Attendees will also have the chance to bid on items from former MLB Stars like
Yogi Berra to current stars like Ryan Howard via a silent auction. Casino
Night will be hosted by Maxim feature model Michelle Bernard. Invitees include
a blend of stars from the worlds of sports and entertainment. There will also
be a special presentation to Chicago Whitesox VP Eddie Einhorn who without
publicity or fanfare has been a major contributor to the South Harlem Reds, a
New York MJBL affiliate. MJBL is endorsed by Hall of Famer and ESPN
personality Joe Morgan, as well as the late Bobby Bonds, father of all time
Home Run King Barry Bonds. Both Bobby Bonds and Barry have been in attendance
for past MJBL events.
MJBL hopes that by coming to baseball's largest stage,New York City, that
the people will finally take notice of the issue and more importantly do
something about it. "When Jackie Robinson's Anniversary came around, players
and corporations said they wanted to do something about this issue. We are
giving them an opportunity to be a part of America's longest standing African
American Baseball league and this event represents our challenge to America to
help us make a difference," says MJBL Executive director William Forrester,
Jr. Recognizing the importance of inner city programs like the MJBL, BET
Networks has signed on as a sponsor for the organization.
