Investigation Continues Into Illegal Explosive Devices

SULLIVAN, Mo., July 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), along with the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office and the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, continues the investigation into the illegal trafficking and manufacture of illegal explosives devices and the sale of display fireworks to non-licensees inFranklin County and surrounding areas.

A state search warrant was executed June 30 at a residence inSullivan, Mo. Recovered from this residence were over 200 illegal explosive devices to include M-1000s, M-100s and M-80s, two stolen ATVs, numerous cases of 1.3-gram display fireworks, and records of fireworks sales. The suspect was arrested by the Sheriff's Office for possession of illegal explosive devices and receiving stolen property, both state felonies. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.

Illegal explosive devices, such as M-80s, M-100s, and M-1000s, are not fireworks but are typically sold unlawfully at this time each year. These illegal explosive devices are very dangerous and lead to thousands of injuries and even death.

The public is urged to report the illegal sale and/or manufacture of display fireworks or illegal explosive devices by calling the Missouri State Fire Marshals Office at 1-800-39-ARSON (800-392-7766) or ATF's toll free hotline, 1-888-ATF-BOMB (888-283-2662).

ATF is the federal agency charged with enforcing federal explosives laws. ATF actively works with other federal, state and local law enforcement partners on investigations of illegal manufacture, importation, sale, purchase and storage of illegal explosive devices.

More information on ATF and its programs is at www.atf.gov.
