Online High School Expanding to Meet Arizona's Growing Demand for Online Education
LAKE HAVASU, Ariz., July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Lake Havasu Unified School
District is expanding Havasuonline, the online program of its Performing Plus
high school, to serve more students statewide. The expansion is being spurred
by the growing demand for the program, which has achieved recognition for its
academic rigor, highly experienced teachers, and commitment to partnering with
parents to help each child succeed.
"We are experiencing growing demand for our online program because of our
strong track record of student success," said Operations Manager Dodie Gildea.
"We make sure that each student reaches their potential and leaves high school
ready to pursue their dreams."
Havasuonline is a public, tuition-free online high school open toArizona
students in grades 9 - 12. The school takes a high-tech, high-touch approach
to education that begins with a high-quality, state-aligned curriculum,
supported by experienced, board-certified teachers, education advisors and
counselors. Because all classes are conducted online, Havasuonline offers free
laptops to all full-time students who request them for the duration of their
active enrollment, along with any required textbooks.
"We maintain the same commitment to each student enrolled in Havasuonline
as we do for students in our traditional Performing Plus high school -- a
commitment to personal attention and academic success," said Ernie Tripp,
Havasuonline Program Coordinator. "While we may be using the newest tools to
deliver education, we remain true to our small community roots: we invest the
time to get to know each student."
Havasuonline counselors work with each student to design an individually
tailored academic program designed to fit their learning level and post-high
school goals. With more than 80 courses available, students and counselors can
create a plan that is right for each student, whether college- or
career-bound. The award-winning curriculum includes core courses found in a
traditional high school setting, including math, science and English, as well
as a wide range of electives including six World Languages, more than 20
Advanced Placement courses, and high-tech classes such as digital video
production, game design, and Java Scripting.
Havasuonline's individual attention extends to the classroom, where the
school's dedicated teachers interact with students in a virtual "classroom"
and are available for students by email and phone. Havasuonline also has an
online "common area" where students can meet and interact real-time.
"Havasuonline has created a complete online learning environment that
brings together parents, teachers, academic counselors and student peers as
partners to help each student succeed," said Mari Jo Mulligan, Principal.
Arizona students can enroll tuition-free either full-time or part-time at
Havasuonline for the upcoming 2008-09 school year, which begins August 4.
Students outside ofArizona may also enroll at Havasuonline on a tuition
basis.
Havasuonline will host a series of Open Houses throughout the state where
students and parents can meet with teachers and current Havasuonline families
to learn more about this education option. For a complete list of Open House
dates and locations or more information, please visit
