The Children's Center Announces Addition of Five New Board Members


DETROIT, July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- The Children's Center is proud to announce the appointment of five new members to its Board of Directors -- Thomas C. Donohoe, Lance Franklin, Ph.D., Antonia Fletcher Grinnan, Joseph E. Klecha and William Steffan. The board consists of civic, corporate and philanthropic leaders dedicated to helping children and families shape their futures.

The Children's Center also welcomes Douglas Maibach, Vice President of Corporate Affairs of Barton Malow Company as the newly appointed President of the Board of Directors. Maibach joined the board in 1997, serving as Chair of the Buildings and Grounds Committee.

This year we were fortunate to have more applicants than the available positions, and we welcome and thank each member for providing us their time, talents and enthusiasm towards our mission," said CEO Debora Matthews.

Mr. Donohoe, an audit partner at the KPMG Detroit office for the past 28 years, has served as a past president of the Columbus Council on World Affairs, is a past board member of The Central Ohio Boy Scouts, and past member of the Management Assistance Committee of the United Way.

Dr. Franklin has been at Wayne State University since 1992, serving as a director and Registered Safety Officer in the Division of Research, Office of Environmental Health and Safety, Radiation Safety, Animal Investigation, Loss Prevention and Facility Operations. In addition to serving as a Quality Assurance Committee board member for The Children's Center, Franklin also serves on the board of the National Safety Council.

Ms. Grinnan is an attorney at Liedel, Grinnan & Liedel, P.C. inRoyal Oak. Grinnan is also on the Advisory Committee for the Shades of Pink Foundation and serves on the Southfield Township Zoning Board of Appeals.

Mr. Klecha is a Chief Technology Officer at Digerati inDetroit. He is a Microsoft-certified professional in desktop application development. He has served as a member of The Children's Center Systems Advisory Committee since 2006.

Mr. Steffan is the Senior Vice President for External Affairs at DENSO International America, Inc. inSouthfield. He is a member of the American Management Association and the Society of Automotive Engineers. He is a former board member of the Northwestern Indiana Private Industry Council.

The Children's Center was founded in 1929 as one of the first child guidance clinics in the country. Today, it has evolved to become one of the largest, most diverse child-serving agencies inMichigan. The Children's Center offers programs that embrace children and families dealing with such issues as abuse, neglect, mental illness and behavioral problems. Through the support of many generous and caring supporters and donors, The Children's Center serves more than 5,000 children and families annually.
