Mega TV Celebrates Argentina's Independence
Four Remarkable Films to be Showcased Throughout the Month of July
Spanish Broadcasting System (SBS) (NASDAQ: SBSA) announced today Mega TV's Mega Cine will honor Argentina's Independence Day, July 9, by airing "Darse Cuenta," "Camila," "Volver," and "Esperando La Carroza," four of Argentina's "superproductions." The series will kick off on Saturday, July 5, at 8 p.m., EST and run every Saturday during the month ending on Saturday July 26.
The first film to premiere on MegaCine will be "Darse Cuenta," which was directed by the renowned Alejandro Doria. Produced in 1984, "Darse Cuenta" tells the story of a doctor whose personal life has crumbled and who takes on a patient that has been left for dead by other doctors. Seeking an opportunity for self-redemption from his own personal failures, the doctor miraculously brings the patient back to health. During the time they spend together, the doctor and patient form a strong emotional and professional bond, portraying both the positive and negative developments that occur in a public hospital.
"Darse Cuenta" won several major awards including the Cóndor de Plata for Best Film, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress (China Zorrilla).
Additionally, "Darse Cuenta" was recognized as a top film at the Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano de la Habana in 1984.
Next in the series is "Volver," which was directed by David Lipszyc and features Hector Alterio, Graciela Dufau, and Rodolfo Ranni. "Volver" portrays an Argentine executive who has spent 18 years living in New York, only to return to Buenos Aires to close down a factory operated by the company for which he works. During his time there, he seeks to re-connect with several of his friends who were all dedicated to bringing about social reforms, only to find that many of them long ago gave up on their dreams to change the country. "Volver" will air on Saturday July 12 at 8 p.m. EST.

On Saturday, July 19 at 8 p.m. EST, one of Latin America's best films of all time, "Camila," will air on Mega Cine. "Camila" is directed by the legendary film director, María Luisa Bemberg. The film is based on real events that took place during the government of Juan Manuel de Rosas (1829 - 1852), and tells the love story between 'Camila,' a woman from the Buenos Aires' high society, and 'Ladislao Gutierrez', a young Jesuit priest. The film was nominated for an Oscar in the "Best Foreign Film" category in 1984.
Finally, on Saturday, July 26 at 8 p.m. EST, Mega Cine will present "Esperando La Carroza" one of the most popular Argentine comedies of the 21st century, "will air. "Esperando La Carroza" is directed by Alejandro Doria and features Luis Brandoni, China Zorrilla and Antonio Gasalla.
