LPGA Golfer Jane Park to Raise Funds for Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research

NEW YORK, June 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Golf pro, Jane Park, 21, of California who will be playing in the U.S. Women's Open, is helping to raise awareness for Parkinson's disease. She will donate a portion of her earnings to The Michael J. Fox Foundation to help fund critically needed Parkinson's research. The U.S. Women's Open, taking place inEdina, Minnesota, June 26-29, will be her inaugural fundraising event as a member of Team Fox, the Foundation's grassroots community fundraising program.

"I chose to join Team Fox because I support the Foundation's work and believe in the urgency of their mission -- to deliver transformative treatments, and ultimately a cure, to people living with Parkinson's disease," said Ms. Park. "It is exciting to be a part of this team."

"Team Fox is really at the heart of what we're about -- making a difference in the millions of lives touched by Parkinson's disease," says Michael J. Fox, who launched his Foundation in 2000. "The dedication of our Team Fox members means so much to me and to everyone at MJFF."

Nearly five million people worldwide are living with Parkinson's disease -- a chronic, degenerative neurological disorder whose symptoms typically progress from mild tremors to complete physical incapacitation. There is no known cure for Parkinson's disease. Current treatments mask symptoms but do not alter or slow disease progression.

Park is currently ranked 22nd on the LPGA 2008 money list. In 2008, her second year on tour, she has recorded three top-five finishes, including her first career second at the Fields Open inHawaii. She earned medalist honors at the 2007 LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn exempt status for the 2008 LPGA season, and had a stellar amateur career including her win at the 2004 U.S. Women's Amateur Tournament. A native of California and a former UCLA Bruin, Park has long been a supporter of charitable causes.
