Jam & Potluck of the Month, July 12, Sacramento

John & Janet Burger will host a house jam & potluck at their home on July 12. The music will start around 400 PM with a potluck dinner around 600 or 630 PM. Bring your bluegrass instruments & your favorite songs, & come prepared to have fun. Arnie Gamble & Grace Clark plus the Western Lights & Bluegrass Hurricanes bands will be there to jam with. Starbucks coffee, snacks, soft drinks, paper/plastic goods, etc will be provided; bring an appetizer, salad, hot dish, or dessert as well as any other beverage of your choice. John & Janet live at 4940 Flora Vista in the South Land Park area of Sacramento. From downtown Sacramento, go south on I-5, take the Sutterville exit, go east (left) then right on Del Rio, left on Alta, & right on Flora Vista. Call 916-453-8889 if you get lost or need more info.

Bluegrass Jams in Historic Folsom, Thursdays

We've had several jams in the Folsom History Interpretive Area. Everyone, pickers & grinners alike, have had a lot of fun. The setting is perfect, with historic buildings, rail cars, antique equipment, etc, & room for multiple jams. These jams are held in conjunction with the Thursday night market on Sutter St sponsored by the Folsom Chamber of Commerce & the Historic District Association.

There are produce, craft, food, & other vendor booths, the stores stay open late, & the restaurants offer Thursday night specials. Our bluegrass music is a perfect fit for the event's family-friendly atmosphere & the Interpretive Area's historic focus, AND it's a great opportunity to show the public how much fun bluegrass music is. We have been invited back to jam there every Thursday for the rest of the summer. The Folsom History Interpretive Area is located in a fenced area at the corner of Wool & Leidesdorff Sts, just a block off Sutter St & toward the river.

If you want to be guaranteed a chair, you should bring your own. We can start our music as early as 500 PM & pick until 900 PM. Ample parking is available in surface lots or the new (free) parking structure a block down Leidesdorff St. I will be away on vacation for the next two or three weeks so Matt Milan will be the coordinator during my absence. He can be reached at 916-276-1899 or sheradinmilan@yahoo.com.

RoseBud Blue CD Release Party, July 26, Sacramento

RoseBud Blue, an up & coming California bluegrass band who played Vern's stage at Grass Valley 2008, will present a CD release show at the Fifth String Music Store at Alhambra & J Sts on July 26 at 700 PM. This debut CD Depending on the Glass was produced by Keith Little & Matt Dudman & presents a hard-drivin' "not so girly" version of a traditional bluegrass sound intertwined with a "hillbilly" feel. The band is composed of Jenny Lynn Williams (Vern's granddaughter), Angela Personeni, Matt Dudman, Josh Tharp, & Ed Neff.
