June 23: MyLinuxSupport Inc. CEO to speak at Philippine Open Source Summit

Eighth largest open source developer, Phillippines, to host summit at Cebu International Convention Center

CEBU CITY, Cebu Philippines (EWORLDWIRE) Jun 10, 2008

Vince Corning, the CEO of MyLinuxSupport, will be a featured speaker at the Philippine Open Source Summit to be held in the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) on June 23.

To map the future of the IT industry in Cebu, the summit will feature stakeholders who understand the value of open source in their business strategies. The Philippines is the eighth largest open source developer in the world.

Corning says recent advances in open source software make the market ripe for large scale migration from proprietary software. "If you look at our company, you'll find that our entire corporate IT infrastructure is open source. We use Request Tracker for our trouble tickets, Sugar CRM for our customer relationship management, Open Office for our productivity software, Subversion for source code control, and Asterisk for our phone system."

Corning said that a few years ago the company's software would have cost at least half a million dollars. "All we pay now is for the expertise to configure and support the software. Rather than writing checks for proprietary software, I can use the money for sales and marketing."

He added, "In many cases, the functionality of open source software is better than proprietary software. Open source works and is better because of its community-driven development model. No more marketing driven propaganda, software features are built because the community needs the features badly enough to create them. Unlike the proprietary software market, you can be assured no one is selling you functionality they hope to deliver in five years."

MyLinuxSupport Inc. is an American corporation with operations based in Cebu City, Philippines. The company provides professional services for Linux powered solutions including development, testing, and support 24-hours a day, seven days a week.
