Hoana Medical, Inc. Adds Clinical Talent to Management Team With Hiring of Heather Herdman, Ph.D., RN

HONOLULU, June 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Hoana announced today that Heather Herdman, Ph.D., RN, has joined the company as Vice President of Nursing, Research, and Patient Safety. Heather has more than 20 years experience in nursing and healthcare and recently served as the executive vice president of Matousek and Associates, where she led the medFOCUS Research division. Prior to Matousek and Associations, Herdman was on faculty at Bellin College of Nursing inGreen Bay, WI, and was an adjunct faculty member in the graduate program. In addition to receiving her Ph.D. in nursing science from Boston College inChestnut Hill, MA, she has developed a specialty in quality outcome measurement in health care organizations. She is also the president of NANDA-International, a nursing organization committed to development, implementation and research related to standardized nursing languages to improve the quality of patient care.

"We are very fortunate to have Dr. Herdman join our executive team. She brings a wealth of experience in several facets of healthcare from her experience as a registered nurse to her clinical research background," stated Dr. Patrick Sullivan, chief executive officer of Hoana Medical, Inc. "Dr. Herdman hit the ground running and was able to coalesce Hoana's experiences in numerous hospitals around the country to produce significant clinical findings about how the LifeBed(TM) System benefits both patients and nurses. It validates how something as simple as 'vigilance' makes a big difference in patient safety. We are excited about these clinical findings as we see it accelerate adoption."

"I'm thrilled to be joining the Hoana Medical team," said Herdman. "The technology developed is already helping nurses save lives by finding hospital patients that would have otherwise been missed between vital sign checks or 'rounding' -- when the nurses typically check on patients every two to six hours. Hoana's experience on more than 12,000 individual patients aroundthe United States proves to me that we can make a big difference in the lives of patients and nurses. Each week we hear new stories of nurses intervening to change a patient outcome. As far as opportunities go, it does not get much better than this."

About Hoana Medical, Inc.

Launched in 2002, Hoana Medical, Inc. is the world's leading healthcare company focused on "Intelligent Medical Vigilance" in acute care hospitals where approximately 200,000 people die from errors and mistakes. It's first U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-cleared offering, the LifeBed(TM) Patient Vigilance System ("LifeBed"), transforms any hospital bed into a LifeBed(TM) System by tracking a patient's vital signs without any wires or connections to the patient. At the intersection between information technology and medical devices, the LifeBed(TM) System acts like another set of eyes for the nurse and alerts if a patient is in trouble. It delivers "Vigilance" in an un-tethered and invisible manner, however, if the patient is in trouble, the LifeBed(TM) System calls for help. Experience on more than 12,000 individual hospital patients around the U.S. has yielded dramatic stories of nurses intervening to save a patient's life. Hoana is headquartered inHonolulu, Hawaii.
