Federal Signal and Intelligent Imaging Systems Helping to Keep Roads Safe and Commerce Moving
UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill., June 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Federal Signal
Corporation's Safety and Security Systems Group, a leader in advancing
security and well-being, today announced that its PIPS Automated License Plate
Recognition (ALPR) technology has been successfully deployed in commercial
vehicle enforcement applications through a relationship with Intelligent
Imaging Systems (IIS) ofAlberta, Canada.
IIS has incorporated PIPS Technology ALPR into its Smart Roadside
Inspection Systems (SRIS) solution. The SRIS solution is an integration of
various technologies including ALPR, weigh-in-motion (WIM), radiation
detection, thermal imaging, digital video and other leading edge technologies.
The purpose of the SRIS solution is to provide greater intelligence on the
commercial vehicles that travel the country's roadways, and to enable more
efficient and effective enforcement by focusing on high-risk vehicles that may
be carrying dangerous goods, hazardous materials, illegal drugs, or otherwise
have a history of violations. This focused enforcement also minimizes impact
on the flow of commerce.
Brian Heath, president of Intelligent Imaging Solutions, noted "IIS is an
industry leader in efforts to improve highway safety and security. IIS
develops and integrates advanced imaging technologies -- such as Federal
Signal's leading PIPS ALPR systems -- to assist law enforcement agencies with
automatic screening systems that monitor the roadway for high-risk vehicles
without interfering with the flow of commerce."
The IIS solution, featuring PIPS Technology, has been successfully
integrated with leading manufacturers of scales and WIM systems. The new
integrated solution is now deployed in transportation networks inthe United
States. Featuring secure and scaleable standards based communication protocols
to facilitate ease of deployment and implementation, these systems provide
smart roadside tools for transportation safety agencies to leverage existing
resources with targeted enforcement programs, or to extend existing
enforcement reach into unmanned or remote inspection sites.
"Intelligent transportation systems such as this integrated IIS and
Federal Signal solution helps to highlight the depth and breadth of our
technology offerings, and enables freight to move safely and securely within
key transportation sectors inNorth America," said Michael K. Wons, vice
president and general manager of Federal Signal's Public Safety Systems
Division. "This solution with one of our leading partners is helping to make a
difference in safety and security every day".
