AMA Insurance Agency Announces Launch of Consultations(SM)

Initial e-Learning Session Focuses on Physician Disability Risk

CHICAGO, June 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The single largest asset held by many physicians is often not a thriving practice, home or investment portfolio -- but their ability to continue working and earning an income commensurate with their skill and training. A debilitating injury or illness can wreak havoc on the financial stability of a physician and his or her family.

The AMA Insurance Agency, Inc. (AMAIA), a subsidiary of the American Medical Association, one of the largest agencies specializing in disability income insurance for physicians, announces the launch of the Consultations(SM) series of e-learning programs for physicians. One of the initial Consultations(SM) e-learning sessions will focus on disability risk and how physicians may protect against the loss of their income in the event of a disabling injury or illness. The e-learning presentation can be viewed online at www.quickconsultations.com/disability. Each session is brief -- about eight minutes long and features online tools physicians may use to assess what their disability income needs may be based on their life and professional career stage. For example, physicians can view presentations based on their marital status, the presence of children in their household, a spouse's employment situation and unique situations such as aging parents who need care.

The Life and Health Foundation for Education has noted that nearly one in five Americans will become disabled for one year or more before reaching age 65. In addition, three in 10 individuals newly entering the workforce will suffer a disabling injury or illness before retirement. With the average long-term disability lasting more than two years, it's clear that an illness or injury presents profound implications for a physician's financial security. And, with the accelerated pace of both clinical and technological advancements, even two years away from practice due to a disability can render current expertise obsolete.

"Aside from their role as diagnosticians and health care providers, physicians spend a vast amount of time staying up-to-date on both the medical and financial aspects of their careers. They are voracious online learners," stated Chris Burke, president of the AMAIA. Burke noted the Consultations(SM) e-learning program packages relevant financial information in a manner that allows physicians to view the information at their convenience and in situations relevant to their life-stage.

The AMAIA has also recently launched a physician e-learning session to assist in making informed decisions regarding life insurance.

A subsidiary of the American Medical Association, AMAIA provides physicians with access to a variety of life, health, property/casualty, disability and other financial services products. Visit www.amainsure.com for more information.
