Tokiva Launches Software Virtual Network Operator (SVNO) Platform for Global Expat Community

TORONTO andBEIJING, May 27 /PRNewswire/ -- After 6 months in beta testing, today Tokiva announced the official launch of the world's first software virtual network operator (SVNO) platform for global expat community.

Expat communities can be broadly defined as business travelers, migrant workers, overseas students, and people who stay in another country or culture for an extended period of time. Based on a recent OECD study, global expat communities have a collective population of 450 million, roughly the size of the total population of the European Union.

"Expats have unique communications needs, and Tokiva is the first software virtual network operator (SVNO) platform that enables the communications services for them, both online and on mobile," said Tong Li, Founder and CEO of Tokiva. "Tokiva is growing faster than Skype in its first 6 months of operation and has reached over 800,000 users globally, with virtually no marketing. Many of the users switched from free or lower-cost providers to Tokiva, because Tokiva is more convenient to use, provides more services, and offers better quality."

The launch of the SVNO platform coincides with Tokiva winning Mobile Monday 2008 Peer Award inBeijing. "We voted to present Tokiva with the 2008 Startup Peer Award," said Benjamin Joffe, founder and managing director of Mobile Monday Beijing Chapter, "because the judging panel and the members believe Tokiva is addressing a global user base with truly innovative service offerings."

Tokiva also confirms that BrainsToVentures (B2V), aZurich based venture fund, has invested in Tokiva. "Tokiva is the first investment we made outside ofEurope," commented Dr. Jan Bomholt, Managing Director of B2V. "We have been following Tokiva's development for quite some time, and are excited by Tokiva's vision, market, and execution." Tokiva's other investors include angel investors in the US,Canada,Europe, andChina, including William Bao Bean, a partner with Softbank China India Holdings, a venture fund that is backed by Softbank inJapan and Cisco Systems in the US.
