Published: Send to a friend Folsom Police To Conduct DUI Checkpoint By Alan Gray, NewsBlaze Reducing alcohol-related injury or fatal accidents and providing safety to our community is a priority of the Folsom Police Department. With this goal in mind, the Folsom Police Department is to conduct an "Avoid the 15" DUI checkpoint Friday, May 23, 2008. The checkpoint will run from 7:00 pm to 3:00 am, at an undisclosed location. Officers from Los Rios Community College Police Department, Citrus Heights Police Department, Rancho Cordova Police Department, Sacramento Police Department, and the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department will assist the Folsom Police Department and Citizens Assisting Public Safety (CAPS) volunteers, along with a representative from the Office of Traffic Safety. A grant from the Office of Traffic Safety, awarded to law enforcement agencies to combat drinking and driving funds these checkpoints. The Folsom Police Department is committed to removing impaired drivers from the road before they seriously injure or kill innocent people. "Our message is clear, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be tolerated," said Sergeant Chris Emery, supervisor of the Department's Traffic Bureau. Studies show that communities that regularly include sobriety checkpoints as part of an encompassing anti-DUI program see a reduction in alcohol related fatalities and injuries. DUI driving is a needless and unnecessary crime.
