Nicholas Carr to Speak with Business Leaders in Four-City National Lecture Tour
ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich., May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Renowned author and
Information Technology expert Nicholas Carr, whose 2004 book Does IT
Matter? ignited a global quarrel about the strategic importance of IT in
business, will embark on an invitation-only four-city lecture tour sponsored
by
T-Systems.
During the tour, which will include stops inBoston,New York,Chicago and
Palo Alto, California, Mr. Carr will meet with key business leaders to discuss
the changing landscape of the IT industry and expand on the views he
articulated in his new book, The Big Switch: Rewiring the World, From
Edison to Google.
Mr. Carr's new book describes how today's computer industry is being
reshaped by its own technological advances and the explosion of Internet-based
computing.
In The Big Switch, he makes an eloquent and compelling case for the
growing transition of computing to a full utility model where most information
processing and storage is done remotely, via the Internet, with the associated
far-reaching effects on corporations, media and society in general. One needs
only to look to a social-networking site such as Facebook to see his vision in
reality.
"I'm pleased to be working with T-Systems as the sponsor of this lecture
series on the future of computing," said Mr. Carr. "T-Systems has been a
pioneer in helping businesses harness the power of the Internet's global
computing grid."
In each city, invited business leaders will join Mr. Carr for a private
breakfast, enjoy his thought-provoking presentation, and have the opportunity
to question the author on his views and the current and future state of
information technology in global business.
The meetings will be held at the MIT Faculty Club inBoston on May 29; the
Yale Club inNew York on June 10; inChicago on September 10 and inPalo Alto,
