The Network's Most Popular Designers Duke it Out To Pull Off the Ultimate Design Makeovers
While sports lovers around the world rejoice in the upcoming Summer games, HGTV will take the spirit of competition to a whole new level with its own main event - Summer Showdown. The special four-episode series, premiering Sunday August 3 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, immediately follows the season finale of HGTV Design Star and will give viewers a front row seat as HGTV's elite designers participate in head-to-head design competitions. Future episodes of the series will air Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT through August 24.
Each week, viewers will root for their favorite HGTV designers and carpenters as they race against the clock in a design duel. The teams will face unparalleled design battles as they successfully redesign some of America's ugliest rooms. When the clock runs out, a panel of celebrity judges will decide whose overall design scores a "DKO" (design knockout). Viewers will see designer/carpenter duos combine their skills and expertise to crush their competition. George Gray, host of HGTV's What's With That House?, will serve as ring master for each challenge, providing blow-by-blow details as they happen.
"This summer, we are putting a spin on design and competition that our viewers have never seen before," said James Bolosh, vice president, HGTV event programming. "We're providing a forum for our top designers and carpenters to throw down! Everything they've done - up until now - is only training for this colossal competition."
HGTV scoured America to find challenging rooms that were in dire need of a serious design overhaul. Once found, exact replicas of these rooms were created - right down to the furniture, accessories and, in some cases, even the rug stains! The rooms were recreated side-by-side in the Designer Dome - the mega HGTV design arena. For each challenge, the two teams must redesign the same room, but, to help with the transformations, they will have access to a wide variety of resources on-site, including paint, tools, furniture, accessories and building materials.
Here is what viewers will see each week on Summer Showdown:
Sunday, August 3 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT
Fans will get an extra treat when designers and beloved HGTV Design Star judges Cynthia Rowley and Vern Yip go from comrades to competitors as they battle each other to transform the world's worst living room. Carpenter James Lunday (Rip and Renew) will team up with Yip, while Rowley will join forces with carpenter Steve Hanneman (Designed To Sell) in a compelling tug of war that viewers won't want to miss.
Sunday, August 10 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT
Designer Angelo Surmelis (Rate My Space) and carpenter Carter Oosterhouse (Carter Can) will fight it out against designer Lisa LaPorta (Designed To Sell) and carpenter Carmen de la Paz (Hammer Heads) in what viewers and design enthusiasts will see as the ultimate kitchen makeover of all time.
Sunday, August 17 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT
It's time for the battle of HGTV's color connoisseurs, as designer David Bromstad (Color Splash) and carpenter Jared Walker Dostie (Rate My Space) duel their opponents - designer Constance Ramos (Color Correction) and carpenter Anthony Gilardi (Myles of Style) - in a bedroom color clash that is sure to make viewers eyes pop!
Sunday, August 24 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT
Rounding out the four-week event is designer Sabrina Soto (Get It Sold) and carpenter Steve Watson (Don't Sweat It) vying to bring home a big win against their challengers - designer Lauren Lake (Spice Up My Kitchen) and carpenter Eric Stromer (Over Your Head). Which team can turn a bland backyard into a beautiful oasis?
Viewers are in for a hot summer of competition with HGTV's Summer Showdown.
