New Taste of the Upper West Side Brings Top Chefs for a Good Cause
NEW YORK, May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- On Saturday, May 31, 2008, 5 p.m. to 8:30
p.m., 24 celebrated chefs, all with Upper West Side restaurants, will gather
under a tent along Columbus Avenue between 76th & 77th Streets, for New Taste
of the Upper West Side, the debut culinary fundraising gala that benefits The
Columbus Avenue Business Improvement District's (BID) Neighborhood Streetscape
Beautification Program.
In addition to two-dozen culinary stars, 26 vineyards from the North and
South Forks ofLong Island, all members of the Long Island Wine Council, will
serve their finest wines. Upper West Side institutions, Alice's Tea Cup and
Nancy's Wines will also share their fare, along with new neighbor Magnolia
Bakery and well-wishers GuS-Grown-up Soda, Dallis Coffee and Brooklyn Brewery.
The Special Honorees for New Taste of the Upper West Side are Nina and Tim
Zagat, founders of Zagat Surveys, Gael Greene, food critic and founder of
City-Meals-on-Wheels, and Stephen Hanson, founder and President of B.R. Guest
Restaurants, whose restaurant Isabella's is celebrating its 20th year as a
dining destination on Columbus Avenue.
"The enthusiasm and generosity of all our participants is a great
reflection of the spirit of this neighborhood. This event is truly a
celebration of all the fantastic restaurateurs who have opened on the Upper
West Side, as well as other much-loved neighborhood establishments," says
Barbara Adler, executive director of The Columbus Avenue BID.
Among the Upper West Side chefs and restaurateurs donating services and
cuisine are: Arpeggio (opening at Lincoln Center); Bar Boulud (Damien
Sansonetti); (Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill (Bruce & Eric Bromberg); Calle
Ocho (Alex Garcia); 'Cesca (Kevin Garcia); Compass (Neil Annis); Dovetail
(John Fraser); Earthen Oven (Durtha Prasad); eighty one (Ed Brown); Fatty Crab
(Zakary Pelaccio); Gabriel's (David Lopez); Isabella's (John Lictro); Jacques
Torres Chocolate (Jacques Torres); Josie's (Louis Lanza); Kefi (Michael
Psilakis); Landmarc (Marc Murphy); Madaleine Mae (Jonathan Waxman); Nice Matin
(Andy D'Amico); Ocean Grill (Juan Carlos Ortega); Rosa Mexicano (Joe

Admission is $100 per person in advance, for the main event and runs from
6 - 8:30 p.m. VIP tickets are $250 each, and include meet and greet with the
chefs private cocktail party at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are tax deductible and may
