Combined Patrols Disrupt Criminal Activity in Rashid

Baghdad Soldiers, working with Iraqi Security Forces detained a suspected criminal. They also found an improvised explosive device, and seized a munitions cache in separate operations May 12-13 in the Rashid district of southern Baghdad.

At approximately 3 a.m. May 12, Soldiers from 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Multi-National Division - Baghdad, received a tip on the location of a cache from a local citizen.

MND-B Soldiers confiscated approximately 200 feet of detonation cord, 50 blasting caps, 200 rounds of ammunition and several timers. The munitions were turned over to an explosive ordnance disposal unit and destroyed.

At approximately 6:30 a.m. May 13, policemen from the 5th Brigade, 2nd National Police Division, detained a criminal wanted for several murders who tried to pass through a checkpoint in the Shurta community.

At approximately 2 p.m., May 13, the 3rd Brigade, 1st National Police Division, National Police Transition Team, conducted a combined patrol and discovered an emplaced explosively formed projectile on the side of the road in the northwest Rashid area.

"The ISF are doing a tremendous job in providing security throughout the Rashid district," said Maj. Dave Olson, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Multi-National Division - Baghdad. "(MND-B Soldiers) can contribute much of its success to the ISF's efforts in securing southern Baghdad."
