WASHINGTON, May 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement congratulating Representative-Elect Travis Childers on his victory in the special election yesterday forMississippi's 1st Congressional District. This is the third straight special election victory for Democrats this year in a heavily Republican district following wins in former GOP House Speaker Dennis Hastert's district and aLouisiana district held by Republicans for the last three decades. DNC staff working with the Mississippi Democratic Party and from surrounding states assisted the Childers campaign through the 50-state-strategy. Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean issued the following statement:
"On behalf of the Democratic Party I congratulate Representative-Elect Travis Childers on his win. The other winners last night were the people ofMississippi's First Congressional District. We thank them for reaffirming that when Democrats stand up for the values we share, we can win inMississippi and across America."
