Panthers Kashmir Council meets in Emergency

An Emergency Meeting of Panthers Party Council of Kashmir Province met today in Srinagar under the chairmanship of Prof. Bhim Singh to discuss the present situation in the state created by corruption and sex scandal.

The meeting decided to contest all the 47 seats in the Valley and 4 seats in Ladakh in the forthcoming Assembly elections. Prof. Bhim Singh accepted the request of Mohd. Iqbal Jan who is lodged in Tihar Jail Delhi to contest Assembly elections from Bandipora Constituency. Half a dozen detained militants have applied for Assembly election tickets with the Panthers Party.

Several senior Congress, PDP and NC leaders joined the Panthers Party in the presence of the media. Prominent among those who were admitted in the Panthers Party included Mr. Nisar Ahmed Bukhari, Mr. Gulzar Ahmed Handoo, Mr. Muzaffar Ahmed Bhat, Shri Bashir Ahmed Bhat, Mr. Nazir Ahmed Bhat, Ms. Nighad Shafi, Mr. Abdul Hamid Dar, Engineer of Batmaloo, Mohd. Yousuf Bhat with hundreds of their followers. Besides, Mr. Ali Mohd. Ainger, Mr. Nazir Ahmed Bhat from Bandipora District also joined the party.

Among those who addressed the Panthers Council Meeting included Mr. Bashir Ahmed Kathu, State President, Sardar Daljit Singh, Mr. Farooq Ahmed Dar (General Secretaries), District Presidents Mr. Syed Masood Indrabi, Mr. Ghulam Rasool Nadim, Publicity Secretary, Mr. Manzoor Naik, District President, Shopian, Mr. A.R. Para, District President, Badgam, Mr. Abdul Rashid Ganai, District President, Gandherbal, Mr. Ali Mohd. Dar, District President, Baramullah, Mr. Dilwar Ahmed Rishi, Working President, Srinagar District, Mr. Jehangir Khan, President, Tangdhar, Mr. Haji Abdul Khaliq Sheikh, Provincial Secretary, Mohd. Maqbool Malik, Vice President, Baramullah District, Abdul Ahad Najar, General Secretary, Baramullah District, Mohd. Yaqub, Organizer, Srinagar District, Mohd. Anwar Dilshad, General Secretary, District Badgam, Mr. Arif Ali, Srinagar, Mrs. Nasreen Hamid, Senior Journalist.

Prof. Bhim Singh, Chairman of JKNPP addressing the Council members called on the people to stand united to oppose, expose and depose the corrupt and authoritarian government. He said that ruling coalition parties mainly Congress and PDP are two phases on the same coin and responsible for the rise of militancy in the state. He urged the Governor to dissolve the Assembly, dismiss the tainted government and hold free and fair election under Independent Observers.

Prof. Bhim Singh also expressed concern on the situation developing in Pakistan because uncertainty in Pakistan directly effects the peace process and the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
