Canada Post Launches Nationwide Green Marketing Program
OTTAWA, May 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Canada Post is going green with a
nationwide initiative to help educate marketers and consumers on responsible
usage of direct mail and its impact on the environment. Marketers can visit
www.canadapost.ca/green which offers greener options and earth-friendly ideas
on how to use direct mail to target their messages and offer consumers
information that is relevant to them.
According to Canada Post's recently published whitepaper and poll, "The
New Environmentalism," 75 percent of Canadians consider environmental
conservation and preservation as a matter of personal importance. In light of
this, Canada Post is committed to encouraging environmental responsibility by
providing useful information to the marketing community.
"Making environmentally responsible decisions is increasingly important
from a social, economic, and ethical perspective," said Laurene Cihosky, SVP
for Canada Post's Direct Marketing division. "At Canada Post, we're not only
committed to finding ways to protect the environment and minimize our carbon
footprint, we are also arming consumers and businesses with the tools to make
a real and positive impact."
Cihosky is speaking at the Canadian Marketing Association's (CMA) annual
convention Tuesday, May 13th. Her presentation, entitled "The ROI of Green"
will address the risks of environmental inertia, how to make direct mail
programs more environmentally friendly and how going 'green' can increase
campaign ROI.
The New Environmentalism Whitepaper
Canada Post commissioned Harris/Decima, a leading research firm, to
conduct a nationwide survey that found that the level of environmental
consciousness among Canadians continues to rise. The whitepaper, titled "The
New Environmentalism," takes the pulse of Canadians' concerns about climate
change and high energy prices. In the report, 63 percent of Canadians polled
often consider the environmental impact when receiving catalogues and other
paper-based mail. Canada Post is working with a number of environmental groups
and is using the data within the report to build a comprehensive green policy
and provide valuable information on marketing best practices which both
consumers and businesses find lacking in the marketplace.
Corporate Social Responsibility Report (CSR)
The green marketing program is part of Canada Post's corporate strategy on
social responsibility and the environment. The CSR was designed to solidify
Canada Post's commitment to the communities it serves and highlight its
ongoing efforts to reduce its carbon footprint. The public can view the
