Action Engine Becomes the First On-Device Portal (ODP) Company to Offer Integrated Mobile Instant Messaging
Enables Top Media Brands, Including AOL, to Support Chat and Social Networking Services Within Their Mobile On-Device Portals

Action
Engine® Corporation, The On-Device Portal Company(TM) (ODP), today
announced the availability of the first integrated instant messenger (IM)
service for on-device portals. Content companies and media brands that use
Action Engine's on-device portal technology now have the option of creating
portals that offer consumers an easy way to chat or instant message friends
without using a browser or leaving the on-device portal experience. Action
Engine is the first ODP vendor to implement a fully integrated instant
messaging feature in its offerings, bringing its customers fast,
uninterrupted, mobile IM and social
networking functionality.
According to the second annual AP-AOL Instant Messaging Trends Survey, many
IM users are spending time instant messaging from their cell phones. The
survey, which examined instant messaging trends and usage habits of more
than 1,200 IM users, revealed that 25 percent of the respondents send IMs
from their cell phones including one in three teens (32 percent).
Additionally, the survey revealed the IM users are instant messaging from
within their social networking profiles.
"More than 147 million people worldwide are using social networking
services on their mobile devices today and instant messaging is a critical
part of that experience," said Jim Souders, senior vice president of
worldwide operations at Action Engine. "Consumers expect the same fast and
responsive instant messaging experience they enjoy on their computers to
translate to their mobile phones. With Action Engine's robust and intuitive
mobile user experience, the cell phone will become the social networking
platform of choice for the future."
Today, instant messaging on the mobile Web forces the consumer to visit the
network and refresh the entire IM conversation page with each instant
message they send, resulting in a user experience that is often slow and
fragmented. Conversely, the instant messaging technology in the Action Engine
on-device portal experience sends each individual message over the
network only without performing an entire page refresh. This results in a
faster chat experience with fewer network delays.
Action Engine's first deployment of the instant messaging technology is
within the new AOL
MyMobile Beta on-device portal. AOL MyMobile is an interactive suite of
services and content designed to enable consumers to access their favorite
AOL applications, including AIM®, AOL® Mail, MapQuest®, CityGuide,
Moviefone®, News, Weather and more from a single screen. Consumers can
use AOL MyMobile to communicate by sending AIM messages from their phone to
friends sitting at their computers or on their cell phones. A beta version
of AOL MyMobile is available now to Windows Mobile users across all major
networks in the U.S. The application can be downloaded by entering
http://wap.aol.com/mymobile into their phone's browser, then selecting "Get
AOL MyMobile BETA." AOL MyMobile will be available for other popular mobile
operating systems in the coming months.
