Immigrant Rights Hearing Set at Capitol Saturday; Details Tuesday

Latino, other immigrant communities focus of first-of-a-kind special, public hearing at State Capitol this coming Saturday

A special "Know Your Rights" public hearing at the State Capitol - in response to recent raids and enforcement on immigrants - will be the focus Saturday of lawyers, immigration advocates and others in the immigration communities..

A news briefing to disclose details of the major hearing will be held on the North Steps of the State Capitol TUESDAY, at 9:30 a.m.

Although the issue of immigration has focused on the Latino immigration, organizers of the special hearing said this hearing may be the first of its kind in the state. They have invited, and expect to attend, those in other immigrant communities, including African, Asian Pacific Islander and Russia..

Among those participants will be lawyers and immigration experts from the sponsor, La Raza Network, National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, National Lawyers Guild, American Civil Liberties Union, and Labor Council for Latin American Advancement..

The public hearing is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 437 of the State Capitol.
