4th Cavalry Brigade Welcomes New Command Sergeant Major

The 4th Cavalry Brigade welcomed an outstanding new leader to its' ranks at a change of responsibility ceremony held at Otto Gym on Apr. 25, 2008.

Command Sgt. Maj. Dennis P. Bergmann, Jr. arrived to assume responsibility as the brigade's new command sergeant major replacing Sgt. Maj. Carlos R. Soto Bonilla who has been acting command sergeant major since Dec., 2007.

Bergmann is a native of Silver Springs, Md. and enlisted in the United States Army in January 1985 He completed Basic Training and AIT as a Motor Transport Operator at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo. but in October 1987, he reenlisted as a Combat Infantryman with Airborne Ranger contract assignment and has served at every level of leadership for the past 22 years with over 47 months of combat experience in areas including Panama, Afghanistan, and Iraq.

His most recent assignment was as the battalion command sergeant major for 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry (formerly flagged 1-503rd AASLT), 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, conducting combat operations in Ar Ramadi, Iraq.

"It is an absolute honor for me and the family to be here to be a part of the 4th Cavalry Brigade leadership team. I'm professionally and personally proud of this brigade and its' focus on training for combat," said Bergmann.

Bergmann is joined by his wife, the former Sherrill Long of Ludowici, GA, his son Drayon, 11, and daughter Tiffany, 9.

Bergmann replaces Sgt. Maj. Carlos R. Soto Bonilla born in Aibonito, Puerto Rico. Soto Bonilla enlisted Oct. 24, 1984 and attended One Station Unit training at Fort Sill, Okla. where he trained as a Fire Support Specialist .

Sergeant Maj. Soto Bonilla has served faithfully for the past 24 years. His most recent assignment was serving as battalion sergeant major for 2nd Battalion (FA), 410th Regt, 4th Cavalry Brigade, Ft. Knox, Ky. prior to taking the position as acting brigade command sergeant major. He was recently selected for appointment to command sergeant major and is scheduled to assume duties as the battalion command sergeant major for 3rd Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery, 1st Cavalry Division, Ft. Hood, Texas.
