Two Militants Killed in Kashmir Gunfights

Srinagar, May 12: Two militants were killed in separate gunfights with Indian army soldiers in Kashmir.

Police sources said that a militant owing allegiance to Lashkar-e-Toiba militant was killed in a gunfight with Indian soldiers in the Surankot area of Poonch district of Kashmir region, early Monday morning. The slain militant was identified as Abu Moish of Pakistan. Troops claimed recovery of arms and ammunition from the encounter.

Meanwhile, one of the militant, who had managed to escape during a fierce gunfight between militants and Indian army soldiers, was killed in a brief encounter with soldiers on Monday afternoon at Samba, some 220 kms from summer capital Srinagar.

The militant had escaped after yesterday's gunfight and was hiding in the nearby army headquarters. ''He was spotted by soldiers in the morning and was killed in the ensuing gunfight", a senior police officer said.

It is pertinent to mention here that four civilians including a photojournalist, two army soldiers and two militants were killed during a 12-hour-long shootout yesterday.
