The leading cause of death for right whales is being struck by speeding ships. Since 1986, at least 19 right whales have been killed by speeding vessels, with more suspected but unreported.

Scientists at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration proposed a reduction in speed around North America ports to protect right whales. But Vice President Cheney has blocked this rule from passing for more than a year!

He claims that there is no causal relationship between lower speeds and saving whales. But scientists are adamant: A reduction in speed will save lives of endangered right whales.
