Peaceful Kashmir Can Be Part of Economic Union in South Asia

Srinagar, May 10: A peaceful Kashmir can be part of an economic union in South Asia along the lines of the European Union. This was stated by former Indian general and pro-Indian Governor, Lt General S K Sinha during his interaction with British High Commissioner in India, Sir Richard Stagg in Srinagar.
When asked how he envisions the future of the Indo-Pak region, the Governor said that economic issues will dominate and prevail over the political problems. Through economic development, a peaceful Kashmir can be a part of an economic union in South Asia on the lines of the European Union.
He exuded confidence that economics can resolve political logjams as in the case of the European Union, adding that this example is of much relevance in Jammu and Kashmir, with its complex and complicated political problems. He said the concept of Nation States has undergone fundamental changes in Europe. National boundaries are becoming irrelevant in the wake of globalization. Why should India and Pakistan lag behind, he asked and favoured soft borders. He referred to the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh having called for the line of control in Kashmir being converted to a Line of Peace.
"We should in this region unitedly fight the common enemies like hunger, disease and ignorance", the Governor said, adding "It would be a win-win situation for all".
