Srinagar, May 10: The pro-Pakistan militant group, Hizbul Mujahideen suffered another jolt in Kashmir on Saturday when police and army arrested its top commander and two militants during operations.
A top police officer of South Kashmir said that Police and Indian army personnel on specific information conducted checking of vehicles on Shopian-Aharabal road in South Kashmir. "During the checking of vehicles, soldiers managed to arrest a top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen," the police officer said.
He identified the arrested militant commander as Shabir Ahmad Mir alias Shahid-ul-Islam and claimed that a 7.62 mm pistol, two magazines and seven rounds were recovered from his possession.
He said that the arrest of the militant commander will further weaken Hizbul Mujahideen, which has already lost its top commanders.
Meanwhile, two militants of the outfit were arrested by police and para-military forces in North Kashmir. The arrested militants were identified as Mohammad Saleem Sheikh and Abdul Hamid War. "An AK 47 rifle, two magazines, one grenade, wireless set and 49 rounds of AK 47 ammunition were recovered from their possession," claimed a police officer.
