Should Parents Be Jailed When Their Kids Skip School?

"Parents in Mobile County better make sure their kids are going to class.

Authorities are cracking down on truancy cases and parents are getting busted too.
...

Dozens of parents showed up for their court appearance but some moms and dads didn't bother coming to court. A warrant has been issued in those cases.

One of those parents arrested is Samantha Green. She has 8 children and one grandchild.

Parents face a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and could be sentenced to a jail sentence of up to a year." Quotation from WKRG.Com

Mobile County isn't the only municipality that is holding parents responsible for the truancy of their children. Throughout the country cities and counties are saying "enough is enough" and are holding parents accountable for the actions of their kids.

It is the responsibility of parents to instill in their children a love of learning, and a desire to attend school. If a principal notifies a parent that his child didn't go to school that day, Mom or Dad should lay down the law, and make sure it never happens again.

If it does happen again repeatedly, the parents should be arrested. A precedent has already been set: Many municipalities have laws that hold parents financially liable for acts of vandalism committed by their children.

As for that woman with 8 children and one grandchild, a social worker should be assigned to help her get her kids to school. If I were a single parent with 8 kids, not only would they be skipping school, they would also be committing arson and home invasions.

It's telling that some parents didn't bother coming to court, it shows that the parents are the problem and they should pay the price of their childrens' truancy.

I hope that more cities follow the lead of Mobile County; we all pay the price of truancy. Kids who aren't in school where they belong will no doubt be up to no good. A kid doesn't cut class to go to church; he skips school to commit all sorts of mischief.
