Hillary Clinton Should Stop Breaking Down Voters By Race

After every round of primaries the pundits and spin doctors dissect the entrails of the exit polls, and they focus on breaking down the voting by race.

It's a reality that race plays a factor in elections, for example African Americans overwhelmingly vote for the Democratic presidential candidate. But this obsession with race isn't doing our country any good.

I'm a Latino and according to conventional wisdom I should be enamored with Hillary Clinton, but I am a fervent supporter of Sen. Barack Obama. We shouldn't make assumptions about how an individual will vote, based on his ethnicity.

"As if the divisions between race and gender in the Democratic Party hadn't been further exposed through Tuesday night's exit polls - and by a very heated exchange on CNN between Donna Brazile and Paul Begala - Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's interview with USA Today on Wednesday is further mining those tense depths.

"I have a much broader base to build a winning coalition on," she said in the interview, citing an article by The Associated Press.

It "found how Senator Obama's support among working, hard-working Americans, white Americans, is weakening again, and how whites in both states who had not completed college were supporting me."

"There's a pattern emerging here," she said.

What Paul Begala said was "we can't win with just 'eggheads' and African Americans".

TV and radio news personalities should show some restraint, and stop dividing the electorate by race. Certainly, a candidate who aspires to be the president of an ethnically diverse country shouldn't break down her supporters by race.

Hillary is practically bragging about how she owns the white vote; I have never heard Obama gloat about consistently getting over 90% of the black vote.

A president represents Americans of all races and religions, and he/she shouldn't divide the voting public by race. I have nothing but disdain for the ideology of Sen. John McCain, but at least the presumptive Republican nominee made an effort to reach black voters by recently campaigning in overwhelmingly black areas.

Shame on Hillary for engaging in her divisive brand of politics. Hillary and her hubby, who was once lauded as the first African American president, are hurting race relations.

Hillary please go away! This is supposed to be a presidential race not a race war.
