Appriss Selects Seasoned Criminal Justice Leader to Head MethCheck
LOUISVILLE, Ky., May 8 /PRNewswire/ -- A formerKentucky narcotics
investigator will now head Appriss' efforts to launch MethCheck across the
country. Company President Mike Davis today announced James J. Acquisto will
direct this initiative.
MethCheck allows pharmacies to electronically track the purchase of
pseudoephedrine, a key ingredient in the production of meth. Law enforcement
agencies can access the secure information to determine if someone is
purchasing above the legal limit. A pilot program inLaurel County, Kentucky
resulted in nearly 20 meth lab busts in one year.
"Jim Acquisto brings more than 24 years of criminal justice experience to
Appriss, from leading extensive Federal and state criminal investigations, to
serving as director of several statewide agencies," said Davis. "Jim will be
a credible resource as we work with other law enforcement agencies and
pharmacies to put meth labs out of business for good."
As a narcotics investigator, Acquisto eradicated more than 150
methamphetamine labs, testified as an expert in state and Federal courts, and
trained hundreds of criminal justice officials and civilians in
methamphetamine awareness. He is an OSHA/DEA certified Clandestine Lab
Technician and Site Safety Officer. In recent years, Acquisto has served in
director-level positions with various state offices including the Kentucky
Office of Charitable Gaming and Office of Alcohol Beverage Control, and worked
extensively on methamphetamine legislation (Senate Bill 63.)
"MethCheck is the most viable solution in the country for attacking this
very serious problem," said Acquisto. "Until recently, law enforcement would
spend days poring over written paper logs, taking them away from the
pro-active work of solving crime. In my years of experience, this is the only
tool I've seen that can quickly and efficiently provide law enforcement
officers with the information they need."
