PPL EnergyPlus to Supply Natural Gas for Pennsylvania Universities
ALLENTOWN, Pa., May 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PPL EnergyPlus, the
trading and marketing subsidiary of PPL Corporation (NYSE: PPL), has been
awarded contracts to supply natural gas to the Pennsylvania State System of
Higher Education beginning in June.
"The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education joins a growing number
of customers who are turning to PPL EnergyPlus for natural gas," said Joe
Hopf, president of PPL EnergyPlus. "Our experience managing natural gas supply
for PPL's fleet of power plants helps us understand the market and use that
knowledge to meet the diverse needs of our customers."
PPL EnergyPlus will supply natural gas toCheyney,East Stroudsburg,
Kutztown,Lock Haven,Mansfield andShippensburg universities and Dixon
University Center, a regional education hub inHarrisburg, Pa. The contracts,
which vary in length from 10 months to 3 years, will provide a total volume of
about 1.3 billion cubic feet of natural gas.
PPL EnergyPlus began offering retail natural gas to commercial and
industrial customers in portions ofPennsylvania,New Jersey,Maryland and
Delaware in October 2007.
Natural gas service comes in two parts -- supply and delivery. PPL
EnergyPlus is offering gas supply. Customers who buy their gas from PPL
EnergyPlus would still have it delivered by their local natural gas
distribution company.
PPL EnergyPlus buys and sells energy commodities in competitive wholesale
markets. PPL EnergyPlus is also active in deregulated retail markets, and
offers electricity supply, natural gas supply, and renewable energy products
to commercial, industrial and institutional customers.
