23 Passengers Killed in Kashmir Accident

Srinagar, May 8: At least 23 passengers were killed when a jam-packed passenger bus rolled into a river in the mountainous Kishtwar area of Kashmir.
Official sources told NewsBlaze that a jam-packed passenger bus bearing No 2236 met with an accident in the Kishtwar area on Thursday morning. They said that the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a sharp curve and it plunged into Chenab River.
Immediately after the mishap, local, police and army personnel rushed to the spot to launch a rescue operation. Police sources said that 23 bodies were recovered from the river while the search for other drowned passengers was going on.
They said that more than 40 passengers were traveling in the vehicle at the time of mishap.
Authorities have sought services of special drivers to fish out the bodies of the drowned passengers. "The operation is going on," said a top police officer on the phone. He added two people including a girl managed to escape death by slipping out of the vehicle before it fell into the river.
The officials said that the death toll may increase.
